Continued recovery and a brighter outlook: a message from Brittany Ferries CEO

Welcome to my latest update. In this instalment, I have news about our Enhanced Flexibility offer, improving service levels and some positive thoughts about the future and the opportunity it presents for us, our customers and our destinations.

Today’s message begins with confirmation that the extremely popular Enhanced Flexibility offer will be drawing to a close after this weekend.

As a reminder, the offer was there to help all customers with concerns over their bookings this summer, allowing them to cancel their plans and receive a Refund Credit Note, no questions asked and with no cancellation penalties.

We were only able to offer this after some careful financial planning and it’s been rewarding to see how popular it has been.

There is still time to register for the offer via one of our Contact Forms, but it will close after this weekend and requests cannot be backdated. Please note, the Refund Credit Notes are currently taking around 11 days to process.

Please also continue to use the dedicated webforms for all associated contact; there are still some emails arriving to personal inboxes (sometimes multiple inboxes) and each one received slows down the process for the majority. Each contact form will be answered but please bear with us, thank you.

Turning to travel this summer, I’m afraid there are still significant questions about the lifting of travel restrictions across each of the four countries we serve. Of course we’re working hard for greater clarity but, as with so many walks of life at the moment, uncertainty remains. We’re still planning on a resumption of more passenger services from mid-June, but I have a sense this resumption is likely to be staggered, rather than signalling a full return to services.

I’ll keep you posted on these pages as plans become clearer. Please rest assured we’ve drawn up plans for many different contingencies and we are ready to react swiftly and in an agile manner, to the developing changes in each country.

The lockdown has brought sweeping change to all of us, but it has also brought some opportunity to innovate, be creative and establish what is truly important for us and our organisation. I’ve really enjoyed many aspects of communicating diversely with my many colleagues across Europe through various social and digital means and have also enjoyed connecting with you, our customers and supporters, directly through these pages.

But I’m in no doubt that there is more we can do to connect and engage in the future. I can’t wait to get back to doing what we do best: sharing our enthusiasm and commitment to the life-affirming benefits of travel by sea and the unique qualities of our fabulous destinations. Businesses that can innovate, adapt quickly and demonstrate clear and dependable brand values will thrive in this environment and I’m very confident we’ll be among them.

We’ve managed to get ourselves into a strong position for the coming years, even as COVID-19 wreaks chaos upon the travel industry. It won’t be easy. Clearly 2020 has left a significant scar on our balance sheet, but rest assured, we are secure.

We have invested in our fleet, and I believe travel by sea using your own car will become a very popular means of transport in the post-Covid world. Combine that with the allure of the destinations we serve, and I feel sure that we have the perfect ingredients to bounce back strongly when the current crisis has passed.

I do hope that my confidence helps you look forward to a brighter future travelling with Brittany Ferries too. We look forward to welcoming you back on board.

Stay safe.
