Guemn sur Scorff - Town Cottage
Sleeps 7 + baby min 4 bedrooms Lovely Cottage - Le Vieux Caf (the old cafe) is just off the centre town in Gumen-Sur-Scorff, literally a two minute walk to the town centre with all its shops, restaurants, bars, cafs etc. Another two minutes in the opposite direction and you are right on the River Scorff, famous for its trout and salmon fishing. Close enough for convenience, but far enough away for peace and quiet, so the best of both worlds for all of you who wish to experience life in an ancient French town. This used to be the local Resistance bar during WW2 and is heaped in history - just wait for someone to pop her head through the window and say "Listen very carefully, I shall say this only once"!!!! Ground Floor Bedroom and Shower room next door (click to enlarge) The house is ideal for any with mobility problems, just one step up into the hallway, there is a double bedroom and a super shower room on the ground floor with toilet next door. The doors are wide enough to let a wheelchair pass. L-R, the lounge/diner has comfy settees and benefits from a wood burning stove for cooler evenings and off-peak visitors and also has the original stone exposed. The dining table shows seating for six, but there are two further chairs available. There is Sky TV, TV, DVD player and a DVD library, books and board games available. The kitchen next door has a gas range cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer, toaster and kettle.
The huge double room is bright and has the original beams showing. Next door is the Nursery with cot and single bed, and then there is a further twin bedroom with oversized single "Breton" beds, shorter but wider than usual. The whole house has been lovingly renovated over the last two years. Unusually with a cottage in a large town, there is a garden, which is opposite the house and although no pictures yet, it will have a children's play area with swings and slides, a BBQ terrace, patio with garden furniture and sun loungers. Bed and kitchen linen are included and towel bales can be hired from the owner (please give notice). Just one minute from the house is a municipal park with swings etc. And one minute further on and you are in the countryside and the River Scorff meanders its way through the fields. Weekly fishing licences can be bought from the local Tabac to fish for salmon and trout, then you can BBQ them for dinner. Bikes are available to hire for a small rental from the owner. If you want a taste of Brittany Town living, combined with a bit of fishing, walking the town and in the country with everything at your footsteps, then this cottage comes highly recommended. Lake de Guerledan with its sandy beaches and water sports is only 10 kms from the house, and you can swim, water ski, sunbathe, ramble, sail, paddle and pedalo boat on, around and in it!
