Brittany is one of the regions of France. Located at the North West tip and its 2500km of coastline is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south and the English Channel to the north.  Around 270km long and between 100 and 150km wide it covers an area of some 32000sq.km.  The northern coastline is rocky with some high cliffs and narrow river estuaries which contrasts greatly with the southern lower lying coastline which is less jagged and has wider river estuaries.  The coastline is dotted with islands both large and small, some inhabited by people and some by sea birds. All in all it is geography is very impressive and no matter where you are in Brittany it will never be more than 75 km from the sea.  Its climate is wet throughout the winter but mild and often very hot in the summer. There is a noticeable temperature difference between the north and south coasts. In the summer months this can be several degrees higher on the southern coast.

But, wherever you stay in Southern Brittany, you will have so much to see and do.  I have tried to compile these pages to give you some insight into the treasures just waiting to be explored.  Each house has its own Tourist Information pack for your to read at your leisure, but here is a little taster.

Markets in Brittany

In Brittany, market day means fete day and there is not a town or village that does not hold its own unique type of market.  It is worth taking time to explore the markets of Brittany, with their varied seasonal sights, smells and sounds.  Discover the much-revered "saucisses galette" (type of Breton crepe) competing for your favour with the Roscoff "audouille fumee" (smoked chitterling sausage), admire fresh oysters displayed alongside coquilles Saint Jacques and select from the best of the fresh quality produce on sale direct from the growers.
