St. Nicolas des Eaux is a beautiful little village on the Blavet River 5km away, and has 3 restaurants, including a lovely traditional crêperie, and bars. Walks along the tow-path, bike, pedalo and canoe hire. Melrand, 5km away, has a very good little shop and bakery, and an excellent restaurant called La Tourelle. Village de 1000 ans, an open air museum about life in Brittany 1000 years ago, is 10 minutes down the road.
The ancient church of Quelven is well worth a visit as is Chapelle de St. Gildas.
Beaches at Erdeven are a 50 minute drive away. Vannes, Carnac and Josselin are just over an hour away. Worth stopping off at the Domaine de Kerguennec en route (open air art park). Golf de Rimaison is a ten minute drive. The beautiful town of Josselin is nearby, and it is recommended to visit the sculpture garden en route. There are also many country walks on our door step - especially enjoy walking to Quelven through the woodlands trying to spot the red squirrels and enjoying a crepe in the creperie when you get there!
Pontivy Castle - ten minute drive
From a guest August 2014: "Getting away from it all is never easy. But it's entirely possible at this huge and secluded longere with spacious rooms and plenty of running-about space outside. The owners have done a grand job of restoration that includes preserving traditional features and adding splendid wood burners and mod cons. The children found loads of games, DVDs, an outdoor play area and there are fantastic walks. It's not far from the necessaries such as the bakery, creperie and Pontivy town for the market, cafes and a chateau. We loved St Nicolas with some great canoeing on the Blavet (and it's swimmable). There are bike trails too. Went to the beach and to the sculpture gardens. Hung out, barbequed, relaxed, sat in the sun and enjoyed rural Brittany at its most authentic. We'll be back - we hear winter is really great and we'll get to use those woodburners!"
Bed linen and personal towels are included (bring your own beach towels). WiFi available in Cyber Café in Pontivy. Start day is flexible as is length of stay which will be on a pro-rata basis. Minimum stay in July & August - 7 nights. Extra charge for heating if and when required.
